Edition 001 · Forthcoming
The inaugural edition of Impressio Incunabula Press is a new letterpress printing of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (1798), produced in a strictly limited number of copies and designed according to the principles of the incunabula: clarity, proportion, and the unity of meaning and making.
Edition 001
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
This edition prints the 1834 text of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the final version prepared by Coleridge in his lifetime. The poem is presented with wide margins, rubricated headings, and the full suite of marginal glosses restored to their proper place in the outer margin, as they appear in the 1817 and 1834 printings. The design follows the proportions of the incunable page: a balanced text block, a clear hierarchy of headings, and ornament used sparingly and with purpose. The edition comprises sixty‑four pages, letterpress printed on Hahnemühle Biblio, with endpapers of Hahnemühle Bugra in a blue tone chosen to harmonize with the maritime character of the poem.
